Carl Edwin ‘Shorty’ Erickson Jr.

Carl Edwin “Shorty” Erickson Jr., 77, a resident of Elkins passed from this life Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024, at Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center in Elkins.

Shorty was born Sunday, March 2, 1947, in Elkins, a son of the late Carl Edwin Erickson, Sr. and Eleanor Lila Lobb.

On Sept. 4, 1971, in Oakland, Maryland, he was married to the former Carol Jones, who survives. They had celebrated 53 years of marriage.

Also surviving Shorty are three children, Christopher Allen Erickson and wife, Staci of Auburn, Washington, Jeffrey Scott Erickson of Hamilton Ontario Canada, and Karla Mahanes and husband, Shawn, of Elkins; one brother, George Butch Erickson and wife, Diane, of Tennessee; one sister, Evelyn Lange of Elkins; two granddaughters, Gabrielle Hazel Mahanes and Lila Kathryn Mahanes; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Shorty in death besides his parents were three sisters, Carol Daniels, Dorothy “Dot” Erickson and Joann Brannon; and one niece, Michelle Lange.

Shorty was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1964 and had attended Fairmont State and Vale Tech in Pennsylvania. He was the owner, operator, and mechanic of Erickson’s Ashland/Exxon Service Station and he was also a U-Haul dealer for over 40 years.

He was a fan of NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt, the Pittsburgh Steelers and WVU Mountaineers. He enjoyed tinkering with old cars and building Chevy trucks.

Shorty’s request for cremation was honored with no memorial services scheduled.

The Randolph Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements for Carl Edwin “Shorty” Erickson Jr.
