Sara Jim Painter Shaulis
SHAULIS
Sara Jim Painter Shaulis, 73, a longtime resident of Hubbard, Ohio, died Sept. 14, 2024. She was born Dec. 19, 1950, in Elkins, West Virginia, to Frankie L. Brown Painter and Frank Wilbur “Jimmy” Painter.
She was a 1968 graduate of Elkins High School. She relocated to Ohio, first to Youngstown, then Struthers before settling in Hubbard, when her children were young.
She was employed for a number of years at Al Tell’s Pharmacy in Hubbard, before going to work at her current employer, Trumbull County Job and Family Services in Warren, Ohio.
Known affectionately as “Momma Shauly,” Sara was known most for her love and dedication to her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She was a second mom to many of her children’s classmates, co-workers and friends all over the country. She was always happy to provide baked goods for anyone’s special occasion, and everyone looked forward to her assortment of Christmas cookies each year, as well as her legendary Texas Sheet Cake. She was also known for her love of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates, attending several games and witnessing historic sports moments throughout the years with her children.
She will be forever loved and cherished by her daughter, Sherri Leigh Shaulis (Michael Colbert) of Los Angeles; son, Shawn Allen Shaulis (Janet Thomae) of Austintown, Ohio; grandson, Mason Parker Shaulis (Stephanie Shaulis) of Austintown, Ohio; granddaughters, Madison Jean Roslyn Colbert and Niycolle Aaliyah Voorhies, both of Los Angeles; brother, William “Bill” Painter (Beth Painter) of Elkins, West Virginia; nephew, Jonathan Brown Painter; and great-niece, Amelia Violet Painter, both of Washington, D.C.; and sister-in-law Kerry Lynn Shaulis of Bethany, West Virginia. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her aunt, Kathleen “Katie” Brown Marstiller; sister-in-law, Margaret Painter; nephew, Michael James Painter; and her former husband, David Allen Shaulis.
A visitation for family and friends is scheduled for 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, at Kelley-Cummins Funeral Home, 709 N. Main St., Hubbard, OH 44425.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Sara’s name to The American Heart Association or Pittsburgh Pirates Charities.
