Carolyn Sue Guthrie-Yates died Sept. 24 peacefully at the age of 89 years old.
She was born Sept. 29, 1934, in Alexander, West Virginia, to Mary Virginia and George Leachman.
Sue is survived by her three children, Jim (Jo), Tim (Jay Jay) and Mary (Dan), as well as six grandchildren, Rebecca (Chris), Jake (Nikki), Sam (Samantha), Racheal, Kallie (Garrett) and Katherine; and five great-grandchildren, Jayden, Dylan, Maira, Addie and Paris; two poodles, Patty and Jake; sister, Linda Finny; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Sue is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Yates; and brother, George Leachman.
After graduating from Tygarts Valley High School in Mill Creek, Sue caught a bus to Washington, D.C., where she began working for the Department of Navy. Sue met her ex-husband and father of her children, Jim, at a YMCA dance in 1953. She married Jim in 1954 and was a stay-at-home mom to her three children, Jim, Tim, and Mary. She began selling real estate in 1965 and continued throughout her life making the million-dollar club in sales for several years. Sue found her love of her second part of her life, Walter Yates in 1993 and settled in Ocean Pines, Maryland. Together they traveled and bought and sold many homes. She loved to decorate, sew, cook, and entertain. Planting flowers and making her homes beautiful was a source of pleasure for her. She loved the ocean and sea and often lived and vacationed near water Sue was a member of the Eastern Star and a person of faith. Her love of life and enthusiasm was an inspiration to her friends and family.
Sue was a very honest and devoted friend, mother, and grandmother. She dearly loved her family and puppies.
