Glenda J. Foy Fitzwater

FITZWATER

Glenda J. Foy Fitzwater, 88, a resident of the Chenoweth Creek Community, Elkins, passed away Tuesday morning, Oct. 1, 2024, at her home, surrounded by family and under the care of West Virginia Caring Hospice.

She was born Sept. 18, 1936, at Harding, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Bill Foy Sr. and the late Erma Channell Foy.

On June 22, 1957, at Oakland, Maryland, she was married to Rev. Donald Lee Fitzwater, who preceded her in death On Oct. 11, 2021.

She is survived by one daughter, Donna J. Jones and husband, Bob, of Elkins; one granddaughter, Ashley Cunnigham Pearce and Mike Calhoun, Mt. Airy, North Carolina; three great-grandchildren, Dominic Cunningham and fiance, Ally Simon, of Arlington, Virginia, and Jackson and Lacey Keller, both of Summerville, South Carolina; four step-grandchildren, Ashley and Adam Jones and Chase and Katie Calhoun; six brothers, Ronald Foy and wife, Norma, Akron, Ohio, Loy Dale Foy and wife, Katherine, Martinsburg, West Virginia, Bill Foy and wife, Mary, Volga, West Virginia, Daniel Foy and wife, Susan, and Larry Foy and wife, Brenda, all of Belington, West Virginia, and Paul Foy and wife, Vicki, of Hunters Fork, West Virginia; three sisters, Sandra Foy and Janet Fryor, both of Charlestown, West Virginia, and Paula Sue Miller and husband, James, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, also survive. Also preceding her in death were one brother, Russel Foy; and a brother-in-law, Earl Fryor.

Glenda was a graduate of the Davis Memorial School of Nursing in 1957 and a graduate of Davis & Elkins College in 1986, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.

She was employed by Davis Memorial Hospital for 40 years prior to her retirement, where she served numerous times as Director of Nursing. She was active in all the churches her husband Don served during his thirty years of ministry and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Elkins. She enjoyed bird watching, reading, attending church and spending time with her family.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church in Elkins.

A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, from the church, with Pastor Tim Edin officiating.

Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman.

The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Glenda J. Foy Fitzwater.
