Mr. Jerry Donald Ramsey, 85, a resident of Belington, departed this life Tuesday evening, Oct. 22, 2024, in the Mountain Living Community Assisted Living Facility at Belington. Death was following a period of declining health.
He was born July 30, 1939, at Belington, West Virginia, a son of the late Brooks H. and Opal Mae George Ramsey.
On Oct. 22, 1960, he was united in marriage to the former Dianna Lee Hershman, who preceded him in death on Jan. 16, 2020.
He is survived by one daughter, Brenda Vannoy of Belington; two grandchildren, Megan Henline LaTourneau of Lyman, South Carolina, and Jared T. Teter and wife, Maleah, of Lyman, South Carolina; four great-grandchildren, Colter Michael Scott Norris, Laila Kowalczyk, Lennox Dianne Teter and William Ray Teter; and a brother-in-law, Sidney Jones.
Additional survivors include Emily Ray, Olivia Tucker, Cora Bibey and Bella Bibey, who he thought of as his own grandchildren, and Aubrey Henline and Jaxson Bise, who he thought of as his own great-grandchildren.
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Jean Jones. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Jerry was a graduate of the Belington High School with the class of 1958 and attended the Valley Bend Baptist Church.
He was employed in the coal mining industry most of his working career, being formerly employed with Badger Coal and Anker Energy, from which he retired. He spent most of his mining career as a foreman.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to work in his garden that he raised every year. In his earlier years, he and his wife Dianna would take long trips on his Honda Gold Wing. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
On Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, he will be moved to the Valley Bend Baptist Church, with calling hours from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., the funeral hour, when final rites will be conducted from the Church with the Pastor's Joe Bowen and David Shelton officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Valley Bend Cemetery Fund c/o Larry Simpson 8983 Barbour County Highway Belington, WV 26250.
Interment will follow in the Valley Bend cemetery near Belington.
