CHANNELL

Gary Lynn "Sarge" Channell, 82, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024, at Davis Medical Center in Elkins.

Gary was born Wednesday, April 15, 1942, in Elkins, a son of the late Graham Snead and Rita Marie Channell Westfall. On Aug. 20, 1971, in Oakland, Maryland, he was married to Nellie Marie Howell Channell, who preceded him in death on Jan. 4, 2023.

Left to cherish his memory are two children, Christal Channell-Jordan and husband, Chris, of Elkins, and Gary Channell Jr. and fiance, Amanda Weber, of Elkins; one grandson, Matthew Jordan; two sisters, Patty White of Canton, Ohio, and Frances McCoy of Craigsville; and a brother-in-law, Jim Taylor of Elkins.

Preceding Gary in death besides his wife and parents was one infant son, Shawn Dale Channell; and two siblings, Janice Taylor and David Westfall.

Gary was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1961 and had served in the U.S. Army as a cook while stationed in France.

He had worked construction for Howard Smith, and in 2008, he retired from the Randolph County Board of Education where he had worked as a custodian. He enjoyed gardening and was a very good cook. He also enjoyed pitching horseshoes and playing cornhole. He was an avid sports fan of the WVU Mountaineers, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and an even bigger fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Gary will be missed by his family and friends. A Christian by faith, Gary had attended Elkins Family Worship Center until his health prevented him.

Visitation will be held at Elkins Family Worship Center on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024, from noon until 1p.m., the funeral hour. Interment will follow at the American Legion's Little Arlington Cemetery in Cravensdale where members of the H.W. Daniels Post 29, American Legion, the Tygarts Valley Post 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and West Virginia Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.

The Randolph Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements for Gary Lynn "Sarge" Channell.
