Mr. Gregory Allen "Greg" Peek, 69, a resident of Elkins and formerly a lifelong resident of Junior, West Virginia, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 12, 2024, in the emergency department in the Davis Medical Center at Elkins. Death was sudden and unexpected.
He was born Sept. 23, 1955 at Elkins, West Virginia, a son of the late Franklin Delano and Barbara Neree Moore Peek.
On July 16, 1977, he was united in marriage to the former Barbara Jean Ross, who survives at their home in Elkins.
He is survived by one son, Ross Allen Peek of Monongah, West Virginia; a daughter, Breanna Neree McFarland of Junior, a brother, Howard A. Peek and wife, Suzi, of Belington; a sister, Lora Michele Felton and husband, Tom, of Hambleton, West Virginia. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and his K-9 companion, Bert.
Greg was a graduate from the Philip Barbour High School with the class of 1973 and was employed with the West Virginia Department of Highways as an equipment operator, from which he retired.
Greg was a long-time member of the Junior Volunteer Fire Department Station 2, where he served as chief for many years. He was very active in the fire department, not only in firefighting but also in fundraising events. He attended the Horizons Church in Junior and was also a member of the Belington Masonic Lodge 125 AF&AM. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home, 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington, Friday Nov. 15, 2024, from 5 to 9 p.m. and again on Saturday Nov. 16, 2024. from 8 a.m. to noon the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Pastor Jeff Burnett officiating. He will then be taken to the Knights of Pythias, Mountain View Cemetery where ritualistic burial rites will be conducted by Pastor Burnett and the Junior Volunteer Fire Department.
