Linda Lou Woolard Vandevender, of Elkins, West Virginia, went home to her Lord and Savior on Oct. 29, 2024. She was surrounded by her family that loved her dearly, as well as the caring staff at ERCC.
She was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on Sept. 15, 1952, the daughter of Mack Woolard and Molly McLaughlin Woolard Thompson.
On May 20, 1968, she married Golden Vandevender, and they shared three children. Surviving are William "Billy" Vandevender of Elkins, Tina Cooper of Elkins, and Jessica Vandevender of Broadway, Virginia. Linda and Golden also raised her nephew, Adam Channell of Elkins, and considered him a second son.
Also surviving are her sisters, Rita Wyatt of Elkins, Kathy Tenney of Elkins, Joanie Channell of Elkins; and brother, Raymond Moyers of Elkins.
Linda adored her grandchildren, Kaelin and Cullin Vandevender Cody and Trent Cooper, Valerie and Brittany Fortney, and Jessa Channell. She was also blessed with four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Karen Thompson and Debbie Moyers. She was also preceded in death by a special niece, Cindy Wellman.
After attending the schools of Pocahontas County, Linda moved to Elkins, where she worked for Reidbord Brothers, Dr. Lester and Appliances and More.
Linda was known for her quick wit and sharp tongue. She is remembered for countless volunteer hours at her children's schools and the Hospice Thrift Shop. She was also a faithful blood donor.
Linda enjoyed cooking, reading, and watching crime shows with her grandson, Trent.
She loved a "bargain" and would frequent local yard sales, auctions, and thrift stores.
The family offers special thanks to ERCC for providing compassionate care for Linda during the last twenty months of her life.
Linda's wishes for cremation will be honored and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
