Orpha Mae Runner Knicley, 98, a resident of the Texas Mountain Community, St. George, West Virginia, departed this life Monday morning, Nov. 4, 2024, at the WV Caring Hospice Center at Elkins, West Virginia.
She was born Sunday, March 14, 1926, at Parsons, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Silas Runner and Dona Shahan Runner.
On Oct. 10, 1940, at Oakland, Maryland, she was married to Gilbert Nelson Knicley, who preceded her in death March 19, 2008. They had celebrated 67 years of marriage.
She is the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by two brothers, Chester Ray Runner and Okey Runner.
She attended the one room Murphy School. Mrs. Knicley along with her husband had owned and operated the Knicley Furniture and appliance store from 1957 to 1977. She was secretary for Knicley's Auctioneers, and she was a farmer lady. She would help make baskets at the Barbour County Fair and enjoyed baking, sewing and working her garden. She was a member of the Sugar Grove Church at Texas Mountain until it closed and attended the Shilo Church of the Brethren.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons, West Virginia, on Friday, Nov. 8, 2024, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Final rites will be conducted from the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. Pastor Todd Mouser will officiate and interment will follow at the Pifer Mountain Cemetery at St. George West Virginia.
