Pauline Hope Greathouse Stalnaker Messner

Pauline Hope Greathouse Stalnaker Messner, 98, a resident of Elkins, went to be with her Lord on Friday, Nov. 22, 2024, from Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center in Elkins.

Pauline was born June 3, 1926, in Annamoriah, Calhoun County.

She had 17 siblings and was the fifth of 13 children born to Scott Thomas Greathouse and Ova Mae Grogg.

She had five additional siblings from the first marriage of Scott Thomas Greathouse to Lydia Wright. Two of Pauline’s siblings survive, Virginia (Wilford) Swartz and Emma (Otha) Arthur.

Pauline was first married to Harland Guy Stalnaker with whom she had eight children, Jackie Lee (Susan Stalnaker), Howard David (Janet) Stalnaker, Mary Ann (Steve) Taylor, Deloris Jane (Cam) Bragg and Bernard Ray Stalnaker, all of whom survive.

Three of her children preceded her in death, Harland Duane (Sherry) Stalnaker, Donzel Guy (Debbie) Stalnaker and James Robert (June) Stalnaker.

Pauline had 23 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Victor Lloyd Messner was Pauline’s second husband. They had lived in Barberton, Ohio, for many years and had no children. Victor preceded her in death in 2005.

Pauline attended the schools in Randolph County and was a homemaker who enjoyed decorating her home. She was an avid reader and liked the challenge of working jigsaw puzzles. She loved to socialize with others and enjoyed humor often telling jokes when given the opportunity. She had a wonderful personality that never met a stranger. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Pauline’s request for cremation will be honored.
