Richard Carter McDowell, 92, of Elkins, passed away Nov. 12, 2024, at Elkins Rehabilitation & Convalescent Center, surrounded by his family.
Born on May 24, 1932, in Davis, he was the son of the late Orie Carter and Marjorie (Good) McDowell.
Richard was a graduate of Davis High School, class of 1950. He worked for Mon Power as an utilities manager. Richard was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elkins and a Master Mason of Thomas Fairfax Lodge No. 174. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Rebecca J. McDowell, to whom he was married on Oct. 13, 1952; three children, Jeffrey Carter McDowell and wife, Sandy, Richard Lynn McDowell and David Kirk McDowell and wife, LuAnn; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Susan, Michael, Riley, Miranda, Lydia and Lea; four great-grandchildren, Evan, Andrew, Jacquelin, and Carter; and his daughter-in-law, Edie McDowell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Mary Susan McDowell and Matthew Alan McDowell; his granddaughter, Virginia "Lori" McDowell; and his sister, Barbara June Hinkle.

Friends will be received on Monday, Nov. 18, 2024, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Hinkle-Fenner Funeral Home, 567 Thomas Ave., Davis.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., from the funeral home, with Pastor Tim Edin officiating. Interment will follow in the Davis Cemetery.
