William Brandt "Bucky" Ferguson, 82, a resident of Belington, West Virginia, passed away Saturday evening, Oct. 26, 2024, at his home.
He was born July 31, 1942, in Baltimore, Maryland.
He was the son of the late Maurice Kendall Ferguson and Velda Christine Thacker Ferguson.
On Aug. 3, 1960, he married the love of his life, Betty Christine Skidmore, who preceded him in death on Sept. 2, 2001.
He is survived by eight children, son Robert Michael (wife Shanda Holliday-Ferguson) of Smoot, West Virginia, son Timothy Lee (partner Nichole Kovar) of Clarksburg, West Virginia, daughter, Lisa Gagliano (husband Frank) of Ambler, Pennsylvania, daughter, Lori Caprio (partner Phil Myers) of Weston, West Virginia, son, David (wife Melissa) of Markleysburg, Pennsylvania, son, Joseph "Pete" (wife Sarah) of Philippi, West Virginia, son, John (wife Jennifer) of Kelowna Canada, and son, Jay (wife Heidi) currently residing in East Liverpool, Ohio.
He is also survived by a brother, Joseph (wife Sally) from Columbia, Missouri; a sister, Mary Coberly (late Jerry) from Apex, North Carolina, and a sister, Donna Karnavas (late Gus) from Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina.
He is survived by 16 grandchildren, Tyler, Mathew, Joshua, Jessica (Steve), James (Angela), Nicolaus, Tomaus, Rebecca (Adam), Sarah (Lincoln), Rachel, Danielle (Drew), Cassie (Nicole), Samuel, Megan, Thade, Bridjette; and 10 great-grandchildren, Aurora, Dorian, Adrian, Layla, Peyton, Will, Jessie, Vincent, Alaina and Julian.
Additionally, 20 step grandchildren and great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and "Mr. Cat."
Bucky was a graduate of Belington High School, class of 1960. He was a skilled lumber mill operator and steel worker. He was a member of the Junior Lions Club and the Clan Ferguson Society of North America. He was very active member of the community and truly enjoyed watching his kids play sports, band, and other activities. He liked gardening, canning vegetables, making jelly, and convening at Scottish festivals up and down the east coast. Just two years prior to his death, he founded the West Virginia Wild and Wonderful Celtic Festival and Highland Games.
Bucky's request to donate his body for scientific research was granted and will be followed by cremation.
Friends will be received from the Talbott Funeral Home, 56 N. Brandenburg Street Belington, WV, 26250, on Saturday Nov. 9, 2024, from noon to 2 p.m.
At 2 p.m., there will be a memorial service conducted from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Sam Haught officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the West Virginia Wild and Wonderful Celtic Festival Highland Games, the Junior Lions Club, or Camp Pioneer in Beverly, West Virginia, in memory of Bucky.
