Dana M. Miller Marzolf, 79, a resident of Elkins, passed away Friday, Nov. 29, 2024, at her home.
She was born July 12, 1945, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Franklin L. Miller (born at Reading, Pennsylvania) and the late Dana Murr Uhler Miller, who was born at Columbia, Pennsylvania.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents was one brother, Leon L. Miller, who was born in Reading, Pennsylvania.
Dana attended Allerdice High School graduating in June, 1960. She sang in the Acapella Choir and later joined the Mendelssohn Choir in Pittsburgh. Dana was employed by the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Bookmobile Service and Allegheny County Bookmobile, where she met her future husband, Richard. She married Richard Alan Marzolf on May 17, 1969 at Providence Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh.
They had one daughter, Michele Lynne Marzolf Rutter, who was also born in Pittsburgh.
She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Religion/Philosophy from Davis & Elkins College, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1981.
She later graduated from the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh in 1991 with a Master of Arts Degree in Religious Education. Dana was Ordained as a Deacon and Elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and certified as a Christian Educator in the Presbyterian Church (USA) in 1995 and served churches in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania; Chili, New York, and Crofton, Maryland, prior to retiring and returning to Elkins in 2005. She volunteered for many years at the Booth Library at Davis & Elkins College and the Augusta Heritage Center. She was a Life member of the Presbyterian Women of the PCUSA and served as the Spiritual Enrichment Coordinator of the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church Presbyterian Women in Elkins.
Surviving is her daughter, Michele Lynne Marzolf Rutter; two granddaughters, Brooke Ashley Rutter and Paige Andrea Rutter; three great-grandsons, Mason Scott Sines, Elias Willaim Gray Satterfield and Hendrix Satterfield; three great-granddaughters, Hadley Grace Satterfield, Raina Satterfield and Amelia Marie Pennington; one brother, Barry K. Miller and wife, Jeanne; a niece, Kristin J. St. Laurent; a great-niece, Susannah Hillard and husband, James; and one great-nephew, Jonathan St. Laurent, all of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Dana's request to be cremated has been honored.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
The family request in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to WQED Multimedia, 4802 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213 or to a charity of choice in memory of Dana. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Dana M. Miller Marzolf.
