Delford Price Sharp, 99, of Mingo, West Virginia, passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 12, 2024, in Forest Hill, Maryland, at the home of his niece.
Delford was born on Oct. 21, 1925, in Cass, West Virginia, a son of the late Everett Sharp and Grace Gum Sharp of Green Bank, West Virginia.
He is survived by his nieces, Joyce Warren (Rev. Jerry) of Nashville, Tennessee, Faye Warehime of Forest Hill, Maryland; and six grand-nieces and their families.
Preceding him in death besides his parents was one sister, Gatha McDaniel (Leonard) of Perry Hall, Maryland; brother, Dale Sharp (Dora) of Huntington, West Virginia; his loving companion, Doris Wood of Mingo, West Virginia; nephew, John McDaniel of Harrington, Delaware; and wife of 26 years, Mary Margaret Tacy.
Delford was a graduate of Tygart Valley High School, class of 1943. He bravely served as a Seaman, First Class in the United States Navy, drafted just months after his 18th birthday. He was a veteran of World War II, proudly serving on the LST 555 in the Pacific. He was later employed by Republic Steel and LTV Steel, where he worked for 36 years in Canton and Cleveland, Ohio before retirement. He was a Mason, belonging to Cleveland Lodge 781 charted through the Grand Lodge of Ohio, F. & A. M.
Delford was extremely quick witted and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was an avid gardener and hunter who also enjoyed music and traveling to LST 555 reunions. He was a man of integrity who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024, from 11 a.m. until noon, the funeral hour.
Pastor David Lee will officiate and interment will follow at Mingo Cemetery.
The family suggests that memorial donations be made in Delford's name to the Mingo Cemetery Association.
