Dorothy ‘Dot’ Lorraine Bennett Harris

Dorothy “Dot” Lorraine Bennett Harris, 78, a resident of Beverly, passed from this life Monday, Dec. 2, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
Dorothy was born Tuesday, July 2, 1946, in Beverly, the youngest of 11 children of the late Gorden Dayton Bennett and Flossie Chilgren Bennett.
On Aug. 5, 1967, she married Delbert Eugene “Sonny” Harris, who preceded her in death Sept. 16, 2022. They had celebrated 55 years of marriage.
Dorothy was a homemaker and worked alongside Delbert, in whatever project or “little job” that needed completed.
Left to cherish her memory are two children, a daughter, Colleen Harris Durrett and companion, Steve Schoonover, and a son, Christopher Eugene Harris, all of Beverly; two sisters, Nancy Lynn Pennington and Elizabeth Carol Demotto (Frank Collett), all of Elkins; one brother, Dyer Bennett of Perryville, Maryland; one brother-in-law, Denver Harris of Mill Creek; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents were five brothers, Gordon “Bube” Bennett, Adam “Tune” Bennett, Edgell Junior Bennett, Clarence Bennett and Dayton Cummings; and two sisters, Sarah Lines and Mabel Christine Slayman.
Dorothy graduated from Beverly High School in 1964 as President of her class. She was active in support of the Beverly High School Alumni Association and the annual banquet held in May. She was honored for her many years of service by having her name added to a plaque on the Russell L. Curtis Sr. Memorial, in front of Beverly Elementary School.
Dorothy was a member of the Beverly United Methodist Church and the United Women of Faith. Over the years, she assisted with countless fundraising events, craft shows, preparing and serving meals for families and various local organizations.
Dorothy’s request for cremation was honored.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date.
