Harold ‘Dale’ Coontz

COONTZ

Harold “Dale” Coontz, 69, a resident of Louisa, Virginia, departed this life early Thursday morning, Nov. 28, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Affinity Hospice. He had been in declining health for the past four months.

He was born Friday, Nov. 4, 1955, at Junior, West Virginia, a son of the late Ray Coontz and Catherine Rosier Coontz.

On Dec. 11, 1975, at the Mouth of Seneca, he was married to the former Lillian Alice Sponaugle, who survives. They had celebrated 48 years of marriage.

Also surviving are one daughter, Erica Dixon and husband, Dave, of Richmond, Virginia; one brother, Len Coontz and wife, Sue, of Arkansas, West Virginia; two sisters, Mary Ellen Carr of Thomas and Jean Phillips of Elkins; one grandson, David Dixon III of Arlington, Virginia; two granddaughters, Bailey Dixon of Morgantown and Zoe Dixon of Gainesville, Florida; sister-and-law, Margaret Miller and husband, Mike, of Tarpon Springs, Florida; and brothers-in-law, Leon Sponaugle and wife, Trudy, of Dry Fork and Leonard Sponaugle and wife, Cindy, of Whitmer; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death is one son, Travis Neil Coontz; one brother, Raymond Coontz; and four sisters, Barbara Isenhart, Sharon Connors, Connie Reynolds, and Dorothy Coontz.

Dale attended the schools of Randolph County, was a veteran of the U. S. Army, had worked as a carpenter and was a Christian by faith. In earlier years, Dale enjoyed hunting, was a “Jack of all trades” who enjoyed tinkering with cars and doing carpentry and mechanical projects with his son, Travis.

Dale was cared for by his two favorite nurses, Erica and Margaret.

He was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend who will be greatly missed. He loved being PaPaw to David, Bailey and Zoe

A special thanks to Affinity Hospice of Fredericksburg/Richmond Virginia, and the Doctors and Nurses at Hunter -McGuire Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 11 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024.

Final Rites will be conducted from the funeral home Tuesday at noon.

Pastor Bob Yothers will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, West Virginia.
