Helen Mae Heckel, 87, a resident of Laurel Mountain Road, passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2024, in the Davis Medical Center. She was in her usual health and death was unexpected.
She was born Feb. 14, 1937, in Elkins, a daughter of the late Harry Lee Workman and Leona Arbogast Workman.
She was twice married, first to her husband of 55 years, William Isaac "Pee Wee" Heckel, who preceded her in death June 15, 2008.
Then on June 27, 2010 she married Harold Lee Cosner, who also preceded her in death Oct. 10, 2021.
Helen is survived by two sons, J Thomas Heckel and wife, Renee, and Lloyd Heckel and wife, Denise; four daughters, Susie Heckel Teter and husband, Jerry, Peggy Heckel Roy and husband, Allen, Beverly Heckel Sexton and husband, Kenny, and Billie Heckel Foltz and husband, Joey; stepdaughter, Lori Cosner Ray; and one sister, Carol Arbogast.
Seventeen grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren also survive.
Also preceding her in death were one daughter, Janet Faye Heckel; two stepsons, David Cosner and Jeff Cosner; brothers, Harry C. Workman and Donald L. Workman; and sisters, Mary Williams, Nancy Workman and Betty Miller.
Helen was a homemaker and was a member of the Tuesday Coffee Bowling League for many years. She was a member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church. Her hobbies were sewing, pottery, working puzzles and playing the "marble game" with her daughters and family members. Helen loved Jesus with all her heart and was a fierce prayer warrior.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 18, from the funeral home chapel, with Jeremiah Franks officiating.
Interment will follow in the American Legion's Little Arlington Cemetery near Cravensdale.
