Hoye ‘Pete’ Simmons

Hoye “Pete” Simmons, 92, passed from this life on Dec. 2, 2024.

He was born July 21,1932, the youngest child of Edward and Chloe Simmons.

Pete’s brothers, Harry, Herb, Dutch and Dick; and his sisters, Beck, Twila and Argie, all preceded him in death.

Pete was married to Luceba Long. She preceded him in death eight years ago.

He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Pingley; his granddaughter, Amanda (Lance) Marcum; grandson, Shane (Stephanie) Yokum; great-grandchildren, Rhea, Kaden and Lyra; brother-in-law, Dr. Harper (Sherilyn) Long, and several nieces and nephews.

His son-in-law, John Pingley, preceded him in death.

Pete was a U.S. Army Veteran. He proudly and honorably served, spending 16 months in Korea during the Korean War.

He retired from the Randolph County Board of Education. He worked as a custodian at Harman School.

Pete was quiet, gentle and kind. He enjoyed the simple things of life and was content with what he had. Family was most important to him. Pete achieved the utmost goal of life; he loved, and he was loved.

Those wishing to honor Pete’s memory may do so through support of their local Veteran’s and associated organizations.

Pete’s final request was for a simple private graveside service.
