James R. "Jim" Skidmore, 66, a resident of Mabie, passed away Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Jan. 28, 1958, at Elkins, a son of the late Richard Guy Skidmore and Rose Ellen Lunsford Skidmore.
On Sept. 28, 1979, in Elkins, he was married to Connie R. Taylor, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Jackie Teter (Brad) of Martinsburg, West Virginia, and Samanatha Ball and companion, Dirk Stemple, of Thornton, West Virginia; one brother, Jeff Skidmore of Elkins; one sister, Dutch Skidmore of Elkins; brothers-in-law, Glen Taylor of Elkins and Delmer Taylor (Pat) of Mabie; and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Wilson (Clyde) and Carolyn Sturdivant (Don), all of Elkins.
Also surviving are one granddaughter, Lindsey Teter; step grandchildren, Trey and Jaden Stemple; grand dog, Millie; several nieces and nephews and many good friends.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Charles Taylor; and mother-in-law, Leah Taylor.
He was a graduate of Elkins High School with the Class of 1977. He loved the outdoors, hunting and watching western movies. His love for the Elkins Raceway goes back 60-plus years and for many years he has managed and operated the racetrack.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 13, 2024, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, from the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Rick Stillwell officiating.
Internment will follow in the Rowan Memorial Cemetery at Mabie, West Virginia.
