Judith Ann Scott Lanham, 77, a resident of Mill Creek passed from this life Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, in United Hospital Center in Clarksburg. Although she had been in declining health, death was unexpected.
Judith was born Thursday, Nov. 6, 1947, in Mill Creek, a daughter of the late Clyde Scott and Mabel Taylor Scott. On July 6, 1968, in Mill Creek, she was married to Excell Richard Lanham, who preceded her in death on June 22, 2020.
Left to cherish Judith's memory are four children, Laura Swecker and husband, Dave, Rebecca Lanham and companion, Marlin Vaughn, all of Mill Creek, Jennifer Close and husband, Jeremy, of Gassaway, and Earl Lanham of Elkins; seven grandchildren, Dustin Swecker and wife, Esstay, Casi Taylor and companion, Dusty Scott, Kaitlin Hanshaw and husband, Shane, all of Mill Creek, Joshua Burnside and fiance, Shae Scott, of Mabie, Freyja Zornes and Peyton Close, both of Gassaway, and Jessie Mayhew Wells and companion, Michelle Arbogast. of Dailey; 16great-grandchildren, Raecyn, Rowdy and Chancey Swecker, Branson, Tailynn and Leighton Taylor, Adalynn and Lauren Scott, Jordan, Callie and Tanner Burnside, Shaylynn Hanshaw, and companion, Jacob Carte, Creelee, and Hazelee Hanshaw, Bethany McCollam and husband, Sean, and Christopher Wells; three great-great-grandchildren, River Carte, Rylan Carte, and Everett McCollam; four siblings, Burnell "Bennie" Scott of Ohio, Elwood Scott and wife, Donna, of Mill Creek, Phyllis Teter and husband, Joe, and Linda Magyar and husband, Oscar, all of Ohio; sister-in-law, Phyllis Scott; brothers-in-law, William "Wink" Lanham and wife, Jean, Kenneth "Buck" Lanham and wife, Kathy, and Kencel Lanham and wife, Peggy; two best friends, Sue Poling and Roger Collins; two dogs, Ebony and Iv; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Judith in death besides her husband and parents was one grandson, Jenson Zornes; four siblings, Merritt Lambert and his wife, Ruth, Kevin Scott, David Lambert,, and Alice Fay Scott; sisters-in- law, Arlene Lanham and Margie Chewning and her husband, Delano, and Jenny Scott.
Judith was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School with the class of 1966. She was a homemaker who had worked for Reidboard Brothers, Beta Shoe Company, Beverly Restaurant, and she had volunteered with Tyrand Cooperative Ministries and the Adopt-a-Highway program.
She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, camping, gardening, canning, and attending local car shows with her husband, Excell. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had attended Jerusalem Church and was a Protestant by faith.
Judith's request for cremation will be honored with a private family service at a later date. The Randolph Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements for Judith Ann Scott Lanham.
