Lucy Nan McLaughlin Culver, 77, a resident of Beverly, West Virginia, departed this life Friday morning, Dec. 6, 2024, at Mon General Health Center at Morgantown, West Virginia, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Wednesday, April 16, 1947, at Elkins, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Paul Nelson McLaughlin and Ruth Virginia Sanders McLaughlin.
She was twice married. First to David Ticknor VanNess and second to Joseph Herbert “Joe” Culver, who preceded her in death May 31, 2003.
Surviving are one son, James David VanNess and wife, Kathy, of Peru, New York; one daughter, Rebecca Jo Foster and husband, Randy, of Webster, New York; three grandchildren, Cierra VanNess, Connor “Cassidy” VanNess and Brady VanNess; two step-grandchildren, Jonathon Foster and Stephanie Ruggiero; three step-great-grandchildren, Brantley Foster, Brexton Foster and Rowen Foster; and one niece, Lora Figgins of Martinsburg.
Preceding her in death is one brother, Robert Nelson McLaughlin; and one nephew, Bryan Nelson McLaughlin.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1965 and received an Associate Degree in Paralegal studies from Drake University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She was a paralegal for Huttonsville Correction Center for over 20 years. She was a Christian by faith. She enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and watching a lot of quiz shows and was a sports enthusiast who loved NASCAR and WVU Football. Lucy was a loving mother and was a very proud Grandma Lucy. She was very kind and generous to very many people. For those who knew Lucy, it was truly an honor.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins, West Virginia, on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024, from 10 a.m. until noon.
On Tuesday, at noon, a Celebration of Life service will be held from the funeral home.
The Rev. Kevin Gainer will officiate and inurnment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins, West Virginia. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Randolph County Senior Center or Mill Creek Meals on Wheels Nutrition Center.
