Marvin Ray ‘Dewey’ Miller

Marvin Ray "Dewey" Miller, 78, a native of Jimtown, West Virginia, and more recently a resident of Hagerstown, Maryland, departed this life Monday afternoon, Dec. 2, 2024, at Sterling Care South Mountain at Boonsboro, Maryland.

He was born Thursday, Jan. 24, 1946, at Jimtown, West Virginia, a son of the late Paul Alfred Miller and Doris Texie Carr Miller.

He attended the schools of Norton and Coalton, and graduated from Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, with the Class of 1963. He served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970 and spent nine months in Vietnam.

For many years, Mr. Miller lived in northeast Ohio. He worked in the printing industry for 38 years and was a master of his craft. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time back home in Jimtown, visiting with family, and telling old stories.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Doris Edith Miller; two brothers, Paul "Tiny" and Charles "Jeff" Miller; and his eldest sister, Helen Cecce.

Surviving are one brother, Roy A. Miller and wife, Maxine, of Cortland, Ohio; two sisters, Barbara Dawson of Hagerstown, Maryland, and Margaret "Fran" Taylor and husband, Junior, of Smithsburg, Maryland; and many nieces and nephews. His nephew, Christopher Taylor, was like his own.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 10 a.m. to noon, Friday, Dec. 6, 2024.

Final Rites will be conducted from the funeral home Friday at noon.

The Rev. Kevin Gainer will officiate and interment will follow at the Phillips Cemetery at Jimtown, West Virginia.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Phillips Cemetery, 157 Purple Martin Drive, Coalton, WV 26257.
