Bernard Cross

CROSS

Bernard Cross passed away Sunday, Dec. 29, 2024, after a short illness.

He married and is survived by the former Sharon McCauley Cross on Dec. 20, 1971. They recently celebrated 53 years of marriage.

He is also survived by one daughter, Bobbie Hamner and husband, David; grandson, Tristan Thomas and wife, DeAnna; and three-month-old great-grandson, David Brooks Thomas.

Bernard was born Sept. 9, 1944, at Hunter’s Fork Community of Barbour County, West Virginia.

He is the son of the late Opha Cross and Lucy Mae Moore Cross.

Deceased brothers, Richard Leon Cross and Junior Lee Cross; and deceased sisters, infant Dorothy Cross, Kathleen L. Cross Long Booth, Opal Dovey Cross Moran, Ruby Cross Leary.

Surviving siblings are Donna Lea Cross Cumberledge, Wanda Louise Cross Brenwalt Brookins, William Clyde Cross, Kenneth Bradford Cross, Larry Eugene Cross and Donnie Scott Cross.

Bernard worked for many years at Mongold Lumber Company prior to his retirement. In his spare time, he played cornhole.

Bernard loved to hunt, fish and ginseng. He loved trolling the alleys for aluminum and old air conditioners he could dismantle. He began each day with his “breakfast buddies” at Burger King, enjoying coffee and having good friendships. He always made sure he was home in time to watch his favorite game show “The Price is Right.” He loved getting the answers correct! He enjoyed taking care of his lawn and flowers and just being outside. He took pride in being a door greeter and attending his church’s adult Sunday School Class.

There will be a memorial held at a later date and will be announced.
