Eleanor Lorraine (Thrasher) Sell
On Wednesday, Jan.1, 2025, Eleanor Lorraine (Thrasher) Sell, 87, a resident of Mountain Memories Assisted Living in Elkins, West Virginia, and formerly of Philippi, West Virginia, passed away peacefully surrounded by family.
Eleanor was born on Jan. 24, 1937, a daughter of Otto and Edna (Foster) Thrasher.
Eleanor graduated from Philippi High School. She worked in various jobs throughout her life including factory work, school bus driver for Barbour County Board of Education and a fiber optic cable installer. Eleanor enjoyed quilting and sewing, eventually opening her own embroidery and sewing shop in Philippi. For many years prior to her husband’s death, they enjoyed farm life to include gardening, canning, and raising livestock. In her later years, nothing brought her more joy than being “Granny” to her daughter Pam and granddaughter Taylor while attending horse shows throughout West Virginia.
Surviving are children, Jeffrey Gouer, General Proudfoot and wife, Penny, Michael Proudfoot, and Laurel Dottellis and husband, Richard; grandchildren, William “Willie” Bartley, Justin Bartley, Taylor Arrington, Race Proudfoot, Landon Proudfoot, Holland Proudfoot and Wayne Proudfoot; numerous great-grandchildren; brother, William Donald “Donnie” Thrasher and wife, Ann; and sister-in-law, Hope Thrasher.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Edna Thrasher; husband, Daniel Sell; daughter, Pamela Arrington; and siblings, Mary Simon, Raymond Thrasher, Denver Thrasher and Arley Thrasher.
The family would like to extend a special heartfelt thank you to the staff at Mountain Memories who treated our mother like family.
Per Eleanor’s request, cremation services were provided. Her family welcomes you to join them in a celebration of her life at the Corley United Methodist Church on Jan. 24, 2025, from 6-8 p.m.
Her late daughter, Pamela Arrington, who passed on May 18, 2021, following a battle with COVID, will be honored with a coinciding memorial.
Donations in lieu of flowers should be made to either Corley United Methodist Church (Belington, WV) or the Barbour County Humane Society.
