Elizabeth Anne ‘Betty’ DeMotto Ross

Elizabeth Anne “Betty” DeMotto Ross, 93, a resident of Elkins, West Virginia, departed this life early Thursday morning, Jan. 30, 2025, at the Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center with her loving son by her side. She had been in declining health.

She was born Monday, Nov. 16, 1931, at Coalton, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Joseph “Joe” DeMotto and Marietta Polce DeMotto.

On July 14, 1951, at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church at Coalton, West Virginia, she was married to Carmen Luke Ross, who preceded her in death July 24, 2002. They had celebrated 51 years of marriage.

Surviving are one son, Joseph Carmen “Joe” Ross and wife, Kim, of Elkins; one granddaughter, Kaela Harris and husband, Mark, of Elkins; two great-granddaughters, Aria and Aliyah; two sisters, Anita Paige Goddin and Mary Jo DeMotto, both of Elkins; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are one sister, Patricia Marie Zirkle; and one brother, John Anthony DeMotto.

She attended and was a graduate of Coalton Twelve-Year School.

Following graduation, she got married and her and Carmen moved to Texas for four years while he was in the Armed Forces. They returned to their home in Coalton to raise their son, Joey, before moving to Elkins in 1970.

Betty owned and operated Betty’s Flower Shop at the Tygart Valley Mall for six years. She was a hostess at the 1863 Motor Lodge for 15 years and was a proud volunteer at the Davis Memorial Hospital for 20 years.

Betty belonged to the Red Hat Society for close to fifteen years. She was a past member of Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church and a present member of the Saint Brendan Catholic Church.

She was an avid gardener and loved working with her roses in her flower garden. Betty was an excellent baker and was outstanding at making all Italian dishes.

She loved her family immensely and her granddaughter and her girls were the light in her life.

The family will receive friends at the Saint Brendan Catholic Church of Elkins from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

On Sunday at 6:30 p.m., a Vigil Rite will be recited.

On Monday, Feb. 3, 2025, at 11 a.m., from the church, the Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated.

The Rev. Father Jim O’Connor will be the Presider and interment will follow at the Saint Brendan Cemetery at Elkins, West Virginia.
