It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rachel Marsh Davis, 88, a resident of Elkins, on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family after being in declining health for the past several years.

Rachel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose love and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her.

Rachel was born in Elkins, West Virginia, daughter of Ralph Clark and Anna Laura Marsh.

On Aug. 16, 1955, she married, Jim Davis, her beloved husband of 70 years.

Also surviving are three sons, Jimmy Davis and wife, Terri, David Davis and wife, Lisa, John Davis, all of Elkins, West Virginia; and two daughters, Laura Chambers and husband, David, of Charlottesville, Virginia, Cara Elkins and husband, Kevin, of Ona, West Virginia.

Rachel was a proud grandmother to Christopher (Samantha) Davis, David J. (Emily) Davis, Leslie Davis, Joshua (Sofi) Davis, David (Suzie) Chambers, Andrew Chambers, Nicholas Chambers, Rachel Elkins, Anna Elkins and Michael Cole Elkins. Rachel was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren, Eleanor and Evalynn Davis, Oliver and Henry Davis, Brandon Davis, Beatriz Davis, and Emmett Chambers.

Her family was her greatest joy, and she dedicated her life to nurturing and supporting them.

Rachel was a graduate of Elkins High School and Davis & Elkins College.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. A dedicated walker, Rachel found joy in the outdoors, often accompanied by her beloved golden retrievers. She was an incredible cook known for her delicious homemade meals and took great joy in hosting our large family gatherings especially during the holidays and for special occasions. Rachel was never happier than when she was at the beach where the waves and the warmth of the sun brought her immense happiness and peace.

Her family will always cherish fond memories of the many beach trips full of laughter and love. She was an avid reader and was never without a book. In addition to her passions, Rachel was dedicated to giving back to her community. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, bringing nourishment and companionship to those in need. She also supported numerous animal rescues and the Wounded Warriors Program, reflecting her compassionate spirit and commitment to helping others.

Rachel will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering love. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion and strength that will continue to inspire her family and loved ones.

The family is deeply grateful for the loving support, kindness and dedication shown by Cyndi Arbogast as well as Barbara Farrar, Becky Long, Barb Crevar and Amy Morales for the excellent care they provided.

Services for Rachel will be private and officiated by longtime family friend the Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley.
