Sterl Edward Welch

WELCH
Sterl Edward Welch, 85, a resident of Elkins, went home to be with the Lord Thursday evening, Jan. 16, 2025, at the Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center.
He was born March 10, 1939, in Coalton, West Virginia, a son of the late Wirt Welch and the late Mabel Arbogast Welch. On Oct. 11, 1958, he married the former Patricia “Patty” Sturdivant of Elkins, who survives.
Also surviving is one son, Dennis Welch and wife, Sheri, of Sneads Ferry, North Carolina; three daughters, Brenda Travise and husband, Tony, of Coalton, West Virginia, Margie Thomas and husband, Sam, of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Sheila Bradley and husband, Rob, of Blueridge, Virginia; one brother, Joseph Welch, of Monterey, Virginia; two sisters, Shirley Harvey, of Sumpter, South Carolina and Retha Chenoweth of Elkins; eight grandchildren, Keith Welch, Amber Welch, Sabrina Turley, Silas Travise, Jamie Bertelli, David Thomas, Daniel Thomas and Aaron Bradley; and 12 great-grandchildren also survive.
Also preceding him in death were four brothers, Wirtie, William, Robert and Charles Welch; and four sisters, Geraldine Pingley, Helen Rowan, Margaret Shannon and Caroline Cox.
Mr. Welch attended the schools of Randolph County and was employed as a forklift operator for Alcon Concrete for many years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Kynette United Methodist Church of Harding.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until noon Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Mr. Welch will then be moved to the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman where a chapel service will be held at 12:15 p.m. Pastor John Welch will officiate and interment will follow.
