Elaine Pizzoferrato Ware

Elaine Pizzoferrato Ware, 92, a resident of Elkins, West Virginia, departed this life Sunday morning, Feb. 2, 2025, at the Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center. She had been in declining health for the past year.

She was born Thursday, May 12, 1932, at Norton, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Nicola and Rosa Antonia Polce Pizzoferrato. She was married to Ronald Ware, who preceded her in death in 1996.

Surviving are nieces, Christina Sanders and husband, Chuck, Frances Butch, Cathy Jenkins and husband, Lyle, Mary Rose Hise and husband, Joe; and nephews, David Buccini and wife, Judy, Bob DiMario, Phil DiMario, Michael Peets and wife, Char, Nick Ferrato and Phil Pizzoferrato; numerous great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by five brothers, Orest “Bud, Anthony “Tony“, Coste, Julio “Peets” and Leeber Pizzoferrato; and three sisters, Rita L. Pizzoferrato, Frances DeMario and Mary Butch; and three nephews, James Butch, Michael DiMario and Joe Peets.

She was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1950 and attended two years at Davis & Elkins College, where she was a princess of the Forest Festival in 1952. She had worked as a secretary for the Mon Power before getting married, and then she worked at the Harrison County Health Deptartment after she was married.

Elaine enjoyed time with family, sewing and caring for her plants. She was a very active member of Saint Brendan Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Holy Rosary Guild and the grief support group.

The family will receive friends at the Saint Brendan Catholic Church of Elkins on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m.

The Rev. Father James E. O’Connor will be the Presider, and interment will follow at the Saint Brendan Cemetery at Elkins, West Virginia.
