James ‘Jim’ Ira Shockey Sr.

James “Jim” Ira Shockey Sr., 83, a resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas, passed from this life Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025, at the nursing home. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to Alzheimer’s Disease.
Jim was born on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 1941, in Mabie, a son of the late Howard and Elsie Shockey. He was married to the former Mary Frances Shifflet, who preceded him in death.
Left to cherish his memory are two children, Terry Godfrey and husband, Pat, of Sugar Grove, and Eddie Shockey of Camden, North Carolina; grandchildren, Josh, Logan and Austin; one great-grandchild on the way, Barkley; one brother, Bob Shockey and wife, Carolyn, of Dailey; and two nieces, Melissa and Nicole Shockey.
Jim attended the schools of Randolph County. He had been employed at several local water departments, including Valley Water, Huttonsville Correctional Center, and Snowshoe Resort. He enjoyed camping, hunting and building muzzle loaders. Jim was Methodist by faith.
Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, from 11 a.m. until noon, the funeral hour.
Interment will follow at Elkins Memorial Gardens on Country Club Road.
