Linda Carolyne Simmons

SIMMONS
Linda Carolyne Simmons, 80, a resident of the Gilman community, Elkins, passed away Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, at the United Hospital Center at Bridgeport, West Virginia.
She was born Jan. 22, 1945, at Valley Head, a daughter of the late Raymond W. and Daisy Ware Arbogast.
On Sept. 4, 1982, at Valley Head, she was married to Verl L. Simmons, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Rex A. Smith of Timberville, Virginia, and Kevin D. Smith of Mill Creek; two daughters, Cheryl L. Samples and husband, Mike, of Valley Head, and Karen J. Carrigan.
Four brothers, William Arbogast and wife, Bonnie, of Florida, David R. Arbogast and wife, Sonya, of Virginia, Raymond R. Arbogast and wife, Pamela, of Virginia, and Jeffrey D. Arbogast and wife, Susan, of Virginia; and one sister, Cindia L. Arbogast of Long, North Carolina; eight grandchildren which includes Justin D. Kyle and wife, Cheyeane, of Valley Bend; 28 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Also preceding her in death in addition to her parents, were four sisters, Freda Lowther, Wanda Ware, Lucy Shannon and Irene Arbogast.
Carolyne graduated with a degree in nursing and retired after years of working in nursing homes and home health. She enjoyed camping, sewing, quilting, reading and cooking. She dearly loved her grandchildren and her dog, Lacey. She was a member of Orlena United Methodist Church.
Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today, from the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Harold Swecker officiating.
Interment will follow at the American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery near Cravensdale.
Memorial contributions may be made to West Virginia University Medicine Children’s Hospital, 1 Medical Center Drive, Morgantown, WV 26506 in memory of Carolyne.
