Wilda Ruth Godwin

Wilda Ruth Godwin, 98, of Buckhannon, West Virginia, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025, at Serenity Care Home in Buckhannon.

She was born July 29, 1926, in Elkins, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Earl and Ruth Weese Moore.

On March 6, 1945, she married Rev. Dr. Charles Godwin Jr., who preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 2012.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her older baby brother, Harold Keith; sisters, Anna Wees and Eva Gail Dean and her twin sister, Wilma Kerns; brothers-in- law, Dale Wees and Howard Dean; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She is survived by one daughter, Rev. Sharon Ann Carr and husband, Bob, of Buckhannon; five sons, Rodney Godwin and wife, Barbara, and David Godwin and wife, Jane, all of Buckhannon, John Godwin and wife, Kim, of Morgantown, West Virginia, Rev. Greg Godwin and wife, Lisa, of Ellamore, West Virginia, and Dr. Jeffrey Godwin and wife, Diane, of Greensburg, Pennsylvania; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was proud that her five sons are Eagle Scouts. She enjoyed sewing, macrame, playing bridge and cooking large Godwin family dinners. She was active in the life of the church in many different roles such as United Methodist Women and serving as a Church Trustee. She attended West Virginia Wesleyan College and was a past member of the Emeritus Club. She worked as office manager at Shannon’s Hardware in Buckhannon, First National Bank in Bluefield and St. Mark’s and Cokesbury in Charleston.

Friends will be received Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday from the First United Methodist Church in Buckhannon.

Burial will follow in the Buckhannon Memorial Park in Buckhannon.
