Carl ‘Junior’ Winans

Carl “Junior” Winans, 100, a resident of Carrolton Community passed away Monday, March 3, 2025, at the Tygart Valley Health and Rehabilitation in Belington.
He was born Feb. 23, 1925, at home in the Carrolton Community, the son of the late Emmett Burton and Maggie (Mitchell) Winans. Carl was united in marriage on Sept. 10, 1954, in Baltimore, Maryland to Agnes Marie (Hunt) Winans, who survives at their home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Shell (Jim) of Ellicott City, Maryland, and Ann Marie Baldwin (Edward) of Carrolton Community; one son, Gary Lynn Winans (Debbie) of Belington, West Virginia; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Carl retired from Bethlehem Steel Sparrows Point Plant in Dundalk, Maryland, after 39 years.
He was a member of Patapsco Masonic Lodge 183 AF and AM of Dundalk, Maryland. Carl was Methodist in Faith and a member of Graceland United Methodist Church in Baltimore for over 60 years. He enjoyed traveling, hunting and gardening.
In addition to his parents Carl was preceded in death by six brothers, Charles, Coleman, Delbert, Clinton, Homer, Virgil; two sisters, Georgia Smith and Goldie Richards, Carl was the last surviving member of his family.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and on-site Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Friday, March 7, from 1-2 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. with Pastor Johnnie Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the Hunt Memorial Cemetery with the Bigelow Lodge 52 AF and AM conducting graveside rites.
