George Michael Ervin
ERVIN
Mr. George Michael Ervin, 70, a former resident of Barbour County and more recently of the Philippines, departed this life early Wednesday morning, March 26, 2025, in the Mon General Hospital at Morgantown, death was following a brief illness.
Mr. Ervin was born on Sept. 19, 1954, at Philippi, West Virginia, a son of the late Shirley Leon and Sylvia Belle (Ferguson) Ervin.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Merlie Sabido Ervin of the Philippines; two sons, Mike Ervin and wife, Amber, of Moatsville, and Bryan Ervin of Philippi; two sisters, Brenda Baisi Rowan and husband, John, of Belington, and Judy Ritter and husband, Michael “Tex”, of the Lower Cheat Community; four grandchildren, Dakota L. Taylor, Michael Adam Ervin II, Alexis Bailey Ervin and Jayden Michael Ervin; and four great-grandchildren.
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Roger L. Ervin.
George attended the schools of Barbour County and was a graduate of the Philip Barbour High School with the class of 1972. He was a previous newspaper carrier in the Belington area as a young man, he then worked for the A&P Grocery Stores in Belington and Parsons. Lastly, he was employed by the WV Department of Highways, retiring as a supervisor. Upon retirement George moved to the Philippines and married his wife, Merlie, the people there called him “big George with a big heart.” He loved his motorcycle and he loved to fish and sing karaoke, he was good at giving advice and was known for his generosity. He loved his West Virginian and Philippine families very much. His mantra was “don’t cry for my body just pray for my soul.” He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home, 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington, on Friday March 28, 2025, from 5-9 p.m.
Per George’s request cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the fund for the memorial pavilion in the Philippines, where a portion of George’s cremains will be laid to rest (C/o Mike Ervin 1214 Frost Run Road Moatsville, WV 26405)
