AKERS
Michael Reed “Mick” Akers, 85, a resident of Montrose, passed from this life Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center in Elkins.
Mick was born on Friday, March 8, 1940, in Parsons, a son of the late Harry Forest Akers and Wanda Maxine Kyre Akers.
On Aug. 19, 1961, in Oakland, Maryland, he married Joan “Jo” Jean Rosier Akers, who preceded him in death on May 7, 2016.
Left to cherish Mick’s memory are three children, stepson, Michael Lynn Rosier of Parsons, Shawn Reed Akers and wife, Madaline, of Montrose, and Tammy Tingler and husband, Gary, of Elkins; two granddaughters, Heather Wray and Cassie Diaz; one great-granddaughter, Laila Summerfield that he called “Grandpa’s girl”; a brother, Harry Lynn Akers “Crazy Harry”; his cat, Blackie; several step grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Mick in death besides his parents and wife was one sister, Marcette Vaughn of Texas.
Mick attended the schools of Randolph County and later obtained his GED. He had worked for Sealtest as a delivery man, Lambert’s Chevrolet, Family Drug Store, Monga Grocery and Labcraft. He had also worked as a carpenter and masonry. Mick and Jo owned Mick’s Produce, Mick’s Backhoe and Dozer Service for many years prior to becoming disabled in 1995.
Mick was quite a “jokester” who enjoyed his antique cars and car shows, Wednesday gatherings of his friends and neighbors that he called the “BS sessions”, family gatherings and cookouts. The apple of his eye was Grandpa’s girl, Laila.
A private graveside service was conducted at the Schoonover Cemetery on the family farm in Montrose.
