Roger Lynn Childers
CHILDERS
Mr. Roger Lynn Childers, 86, a resident of Belington, departed this life Saturday evening, March 29, 2025, at the home of his son, Scott, in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Death was following a period of declining health.
Roger was born March 8, 1939, at the Meadowbrook Community, near Clarksburg, West Virginia, a son of the late James Carroll and Mildred Davis Childers.
On Feb. 14, 1964, he was united in marriage to the former Sandra Lee Price, who preceded him in death on March 6, 2023.
Roger is survived by two sons, Scott Childers and wife, Mary, of Clarksburg, and Dr. Ricky Childers and wife, Dr. Samantha Childers, of Fort Worth Texas; one sister, Anna Lee Nestor of the Tacy community; and one brother, Ralph Leon Childers of Clarksburg.
Grandchildren surviving are Matt and Shannon Swiger, Laila, Grace and Emma Childers, Shawn and Ashley Wamsley, Karlea Bise and Eli Childers.
Also surviving are great-grandchildren, William Scott Swiger and Chase Roberts; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Rodney Childers; and siblings, Nancy Carroll Harris, Helen June Cain, Mary Jo Delauder, Lois Nestor, Clyde Carroll Childers, Don A. Childers, Robert Lee Childers, Lawerence Dale Childers; and an infant sister, Eva Marie Childers.
Roger attended the schools of Barbour County and received his GED in the service. He was a proud veteran of The United States Air Force, where he served as a military policeman. Roger retired from the Morgantown Machine and Hydraulics Inc., where he was employed as a welder and machinist. He attended the Sugar Creek Community Church in Belington and was formerly an avid hunter and fisherman. Roger was a devoted WVU football fan and devout Christian, and he loved to read the Word of God. He will be remembered as a loving husband, loving father, loving grandfather, and an all-around family man.
Friends will be received at The Talbott Funeral Home at 56 N Brandenburg Street in Belington, West Virginia, on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at which time a funeral service will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Chris DeBarr officiating.
Interment will follow in the Sugar Creek Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by the United States Air Force and the Belington American Legion Post 96.
