Dr. Jeffrey Guy Harris, DO

Dr. Jeffrey Guy Harris, DO, 69, a former resident of Belington and more recently of West Union, West Virginia, departed this life Friday April 11, 2025, in the Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown. Death was following a period of declining health.

He was born on March 16, 1956, at Philippi, West Virginia, a son of the late Dickie Guy and Mary Katherine Poe Harris.

He had never married.

Left to cherish his memory are one sister, Alesia Swartz and husband, Lee, of Belington; two nieces, Christina Harris of Belington and Alex (Harris) Robbins and husband, Bobby, of Belington; one great-nephew, Daniel Robbins; and one great-niece, Rylee Jo Robbins.

Additional survivors include his good friends, Dr. Randy Blackburn and wife, Shelia, of North Carolina, Mark Ryan and wife, Tammy, of Belington, David Turner of Belington and Evangelist Noah West of West Union, his friend and care giver for the last year.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Katherine Faye Harris; and one nephew, Sgt. R.J. Jimenez, United States Marine Corps.

Jeff was a graduate from the Philip Barbour High School with the class of 1974. After high school, he attended the West Virginia University from 1974-1980, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree. In 1979-1980, he was a Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic, studying at Fairmont University. In 1980-1984, he worked at the WVU School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, where he later became an Adjunct Professor. In 1984-1985, he worked an Internship at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital, Pontiac, Michigan. He did his Family Practice Residency at Family Practice (Medicine) from 1985-1987.

In 1990-1993, he attended the University of Akron School of Law, receiving his Doctor of Law — JD, then in 1995- 1997, he received his Master of Business Administration — MBA for Physicians. He retired in April of 2021 as a Family Physician at the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, and from 2021-2024 he attended West Virginia School of Preaching with the Church of Christ.

He was a member of the Church of Christ in Belington and was known as prankster, he was hilarious and had a radiant personality. He loved to watch FOX News and movies, and loved traveling; seeing the Ark Encounter with his family and traveling to Canaan, Snowshoe and the beach. He always looked out for other people, he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Friends will be received at The Talbott Funeral Home at 56 N Brandenburg Street in Belington, West Virginia, on Thursday, April 17, 2025, from 4 – 8 p.m. and again on Friday, April 18, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., the funeral hour, with Evangelist Noah West officiating.

Interment will follow in the Fraternal Cemetery near Belington.
