Benny Joe Snyder Sr.

Benny Joe Snyder Sr., 84, a resident of Harman, West Virginia, departed this life Friday evening, May 2, 2025 at the Mountain Living Community at Belington, West Virginia, surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Mountain Hospice. He had been in declining health for the past two months.

He was born Monday, March 3, 1941, at Laneville, West Virginia, a son of the late Blaine J. Snyder Jr. and Alma Ina Pennington Snyder.

On Feb. 16, 1963, at Oakland, Maryland, he was married to the former Doris Jean Blackburn, who survives. They had celebrated 62 years of marriage.

Also surviving are three sons, Benny Joe Snyder Jr. and wife, Teresa, of Whitmer, William “Bill” Snyder and wife, Jennifer, and James and wife, Karen, all of Harman; one daughter, Victoria Ann of Harman; two brothers, Larry Snyder of Harman and Ronnie Snyder and wife, Cindy, of Cumberland, Maryland; four grandchildren, Alex Snyder and wife, Patty, of Elkins, Adam Snyder and wife Emily, of Harman, Doug Shifflett Jr. and wife, Jenny, of Harman, and Christopher Shifflett and companion, Stacy, of Thornton; several great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, “Boo.”

Preceding him in death are one brother, William Myron Snyder; and one grandson, Brian Mitchell Shifflett.

He was a graduate of Harman High School and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from Davis & Elkins College. He had been a lineman in the Clarksburg area, was a Master Electrician, an accountant at Davis Trust Company, was the Owner and Operator of Cooper & Sons in Harman for 15 years and retired as an electrician.

Benny was a member of the United Apostolic Pentecostal Church at Whitmer, and was a long-standing member of the I.B.E.W. 596. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and camping. Benny was a perfectionist, and it showed through his straight fence lines, and his perfectly spaced garden. Benny will be greatly missed and loved his family very much.

The family will receive friends at the United Apostolic Pentecostal Church at Whitmer from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Final Rites will be conducted from the Church on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 1 p.m. Pastor Angie Whetzel will officiate and interment will follow at the Laurel Hill Cemetery at Whitmer, West Virginia.
