Calvin Ted ‘Buzz’ Bennett Sr.

Calvin Ted “Buzz” Bennett Sr., 85, a resident of Norton, West Virginia, departed this life early Sunday morning, May 4, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family and under the care of WV Caring.

He was born Friday, Sept. 8, 1939, at Norton, West Virginia, a son of the late Ralph Ted Bennett and Virginia Mae Pingley Bennett.

On May 27, 1961, he was married to the former Brenda Jane Tingler, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Calvin Ted Bennett Jr. and wife, Peggy, of Elkins, and Chad Dale Bennett Sr. and wife, Feronda, of Coalton; three daughters, Terri Lynn Lawrence and husband, Rick, of Dry Fork, Lisa Marie Crawford and husband, Dennis, of Kingsville, and Rita Leigh Howell and husband, Edward, of Norton; one sister, Kathy Jean Schoonover of Grantsville; 12 grandchildren, Eric Bennett and companion, Veronica Isner, Brenda Pritt and husband, Kevin, Matthew Lawrence and wife, Amanda, Amanda Hanson and husband, Nic, Ashley Wright and husband, Kevin, Wesley Crawford and wife, Angellea, Caleb Crawford and companion, Ila Kerns, Allison Arbogast and husband, Craig, Ryan Howell and companion, Rebecca Shaw, Chad Bennett Jr. and wife, Kazelyn, Alicia Bennett and companion, Dylan Fletcher, and Kelsey Gibson and husband, David; and 26 great-grandchildren, Brandon, Karah, Luke, Jaxson, Braxden, Beckett, Briggs, Ethan, Isaac, Ava, James, Jackson, Harlow, Alyssa, Maddox, Gemma, Logan, Noah, Ariella, Dylan, Sylas, Nora, Leo, Lola, Owen and Liam.

Preceding him in death are one brother, Edward Lee Bennett; one sister, Delores Jean Haddix; one great-granddaughter, Maci Lawrence; and his father and mother-in-law, Jacob Denver Tingler and Elizabeth Katheryn Coberly Tingler.

Buzz was a graduate of Coalton High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having spent two years in Germany. He worked for the Ricottilli Sawmill, in construction at Mt. Storm Power Plant, as a Coal Miner for 30 years at Valley Camp Coal Company in Wheeling, the Badger Coal Company at Philippi and retired from Beth Energy at Buckhannon and later worked at the Elkins Distributing Company. He enjoyed carpentry work, woodworking, gardening, honeybees and hunting.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Final Rites will be conducted from the funeral home on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at 2 p.m.

Pastor Johnny Welch will officiate, and interment will follow at the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville, West Virginia, where full military honors will be accorded by members of the WV National Guard Honor Guard Program, the H.W. Daniels Post 29, American Legion and the Tygarts Valley Post 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
