Linda Louise Hovatter Loughry

LOUGHRY

Linda Louise Hovatter Loughry, 81, of Hambleton, West Virginia, passed away on May 7, 2025, after an unexpected medical condition. As she did with all of life’s experiences, Linda faced her final days with profound grace and remarkable strength, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

She was a kind, loving and devoted wife to her husband of 58 years, Allen Loughry, as well as a loving mother to their daughters, Kim Hamrick (Travis) and Lisa Loughry; and son, Allen Loughry II (Kelly).

Aside from being survived by her children, Linda also leaves behind her five grandchildren, Kayla Fedonick (Chris), Samantha Peters (Eli), Stephanie Betler, Scotty Elwood (Liz) and Justus Loughry; and two great-granddaughters, Lena Fedonick and Stella Peters. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her world, and nothing brought her greater joy than being with them.

Linda lived much of her life in Tucker County, born on June 2, 1943, and was a cherished and steady presence in the lives of those around her. After graduating from Parsons High School in 1961, Linda began her career with the federal government and moved to Washington, D.C. While living in the D.C. area, she met her husband, Allen — also a native of Tucker County. They married and eventually returned to the community where they had both been born and raised. There, they proudly and wholeheartedly grew their family and ran a beloved local business, The Parsons News and Novelty. Deeply committed to public service, she also built a long and meaningful career with the National Forest Service as an Administrative Secretary, where she proudly served her community for 36 years until her retirement in 2012.

Linda found beauty in life’s simple pleasures, always with a good book in hand and never disappointed by a good movie or series. Her creativity was a true gift–she lovingly crocheted blankets for anyone she cherished. She embraced the changing seasons, delighting in Fall Festivals and eagerly anticipating spring, when she found joy in selecting ferns and flowers to bring new life to her home. She could often be found at the Tucker County Wellness Center, where she spent her mornings socializing, all while cleverly disguising it as a workout.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Loughry; her parents, Mary (Kalar) Hovatter and Scott Hovatter; and her brother, Scotty Hovatter.

The Loughry family invites family and friends to join them for a graveside service in celebration of Linda’s life at the Parsons Cemetery, in Parsons, West Virginia, on Friday, May 16, at noon.

Linda shared a love of animals, so the family asks that any charitable donations made in Linda’s honor go to the Tucker County Humane Society.

The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is honored to be in charge of the arrangements for Linda Louise Hovatter Loughry.
