Calvin Hart

HART
Calvin Hart of the Hazelwood Community, Elkins, West Virginia, passed onto his eternal life on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown, West Virginia.
He was the son of Virgil S. Hart and Luella Tingler Hart, both deceased.
Surviving relatives are sister, Hazel Regina Strickland; brother, Hugh Alan Hart and wife, Chrissy Hart; nephews, Stewart Whiteman and Eddie Whiteman; great-nieces, Stormie Adams, Krianna Whiteman, Lily Whiteman and Alana Whiteman; great-great-nephews, Steven Adams and Christopher Adams, all of Goldsboro, North Carolina. His cherished best friends, Brad Simmons, Bill Grindle and Judy Kyle of Elkins, West Virginia.
Calvin graduated from Elkins High School in 1972 and then graduated from mechanics school in Martinsburg, West Virginia. He retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways in Elkins and had an exemplary work ethic and he would never turn down an after-hours call. It was sometimes cold, wet and dark but he was always there to repair snowplows, etc. At 17 years of age, he built a small shack and later he went on to build a two-bedroom house.
Several years later he built a larger house completing most of the work by himself. Calvin was a caregiver for both parents, having been at their bedside, holding their hands, day and night until the very end. He never met a stranger and made many friends along the way. The many restaurants he frequented knew his order and he was on a first name basis with the waitresses and would share conversation and laughs together. He cared about each waitress that served him and was known for bringing laughter to many. Calvin would often bring smiles to children by asking parents if he could give their children coins to use for the candy or toy vending machines.
He loved to see kids smile. He would love to send his great nieces, much to their parents’ demise, noise makers that the children loved and neighbors could hear. Gifts like megaphones with sirens kept them entertained for hours. Calvin will surely be missed by many and the memories with him will be everlasting.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until noon Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at noon Tuesday, June 10, 2025, from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Leon Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Hazelwood Cemetery near Elkins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607 in memory of Calvin.
