Larry Arnette Mahoney

Larry was born Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1937, in Alexandria, Virginia, a son of the late William K. Mahoney and Ethel Javins Mahoney.

On May 11, 1961, he married the former Barbara Butcher, who preceded him in death December 6, 2019.

Left to cherish his memory are three children, Gregory B. Mahoney and wife, Elizabeth, of Beverly, Larry M. Mahoney of Beverly and Derek S. Mahoney and wife, Kathy, of Elkins; grandchildren, Laurn Mahoney Lee and husband, Frankie, and Casey Mahoney and fiance, Read Schumacher; siblings, Lorraine Meadows of Springfield, Virginia, and Zella Graves of Valley Bend; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death besides his parents and wife were siblings, Lillian Meadows and Douglas Mahoney.

Larry attended George Washington High School in Alexandria, Virginia, and started working for Eastern Airlines when he was 18-years-old. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1956, finishing as a Ship Serviceman after four years. Larry then went back to Eastern Airlines, where he retired after working 34 years. Following his retirement, Larry worked at Elkins Walmart for 18 years, where he never met a stranger. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Washington Redskins, Washington Nationals and West Virginia Mountaineers. Larry umpired local youth and high school teams and participated in a local men’s baseball team until his mid 40s.

Larry’s request for cremation was honored.

A graveside service will be conducted at Mountain State Memorial Gardens in Gilman June 29, 2025, at 2 p.m. and is open to the public.

The family suggests that donations be made in Larry’s name to the Randolph County Humane Society, PO Box 785 Elkins WV 26241.

The Randolph Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements for Larry Arnette Mahoney.
