Michael Allen Pharis

Mr. Michael Allen Pharis, 64, a resident of Belington, departed this life Wednesday evening, June 18, 2025, at his home. Death was following a period of declining health.

He was born Feb. 11, 1961, at Elkins, a son of the late James William “Bill” Sr. and Janis Thema Wiseman Pharis.

On May 17, 1980, he was united in marriage to the former Mary Ellen Taylor, who preceded him in death on Aug. 13, 2019.

Left to cherish his memory is one brother, James W. “Butch” Pharis Jr. and wife, Nancy, of Junior; two sisters, Janet L. Baisi of Kenova and Gloria J. Pudder of Junior. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by two sisters, Linda C. Cox and Karen S. Snyder.

Michael attended the schools of Barbour County. Before becoming disabled, he worked various jobs in the area, including Elkins Iron and Metal, logging timber, and as an auctioneer assistant. He also helped his dad and brother on the family farm. Michael was an avid hunter and he especially enjoyed coon hunting. He loved the outdoors and was a great collector of many things that he cherished. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A graveside service will be conducted at the Trinity Cemetery near Belington on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Jimmie E. Tallman officiating. Interment will then follow.
