In the 60s, she worked at Reidbord Brothers sewing factory before working as the custodian at Mabie Grade School. Following her parent’s retirement she became the owner/operator of Riggleman’s Store in Mabie for many years. After closing the store, she was employed by the Kroger Company in the deli. Joan ended her employment retiring from Wal-Mart after 20 years in various departments. One of Joan’s greatest pleasures in life was cooking for others. Whether it was preparing a meal for a neighbor, sharing food with co-workers, providing for bake sales, calling the family to tell them she had “leftovers” or family dinners at her home. she loved being in the kitchen and sharing a meal. And anyone who was fortunate enough to enjoy her food knew what a wonderful cook she was.
