NINE
Carl Edward Nine, 82, a resident of Montrose, West Virginia, departed this life Wednesday afternoon, July 2, 2025, at WVU Medicine’s United Hospital Center at Bridgeport, West Virginia. Death was unexpected.
He was born Saturday, Oct. 10, 1942, at Tucker County, West Virginia, a son of the late Jacob Richard Nine and Virginia Watring Nine.
On May 8, 1965, he was married to the former Dorothy Lou Funk, who preceded him in death, March 29, 2009.
Surviving are one son, Timothy Allen Nine and companion, Lisa Dennis, of Elkins; one daughter, Tessa Michelle Henry and husband, Kevin, of Montrose; two brothers, Jerry Nine and wife, Sue, of Elkins, Johnny Nine and wife, Sharon, of Preston County; three sisters, Susie Hershman and husband, George, and Ruby Hershman and husband, Herb, all of Moatsville, and Frances Nine of Franklin; six grandchildren, Matthew Nine and wife, Alissa, of Martinsburg, Coedy Nine of Elkins, Ricky Nine of Franklin, Tiffany Henry Stark and husband, Tony, Branson Henry and wife, Amy, and Rachael Henry Roy and husband, Bryan, all of Montrose; eight great-grandchildren, Gavin Stark, Carter Stark, and Annessa Stark, Jacob Henry, Benton Henry and Ella Henry and Victoria Nine and Todd Nine; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are three brothers, Richard, Charles and infant David Nine; and three sisters, Virginia Ruth Channell, Charlotte George and Grace Nine Propst.
Carl attended the schools of Tucker County, had worked in construction and was head of maintenance for Holland Enterprises for almost 40 years. He was a member of the Believers Fellowship at Montrose. He enjoyed woodworking and loved making wooden bowls. He built toy boxes for his grandchildren. Carl loved being “PapPaw” to his precious grandchildren. He loved spending time with all his family.
He was a quiet, faithful man who spoke with his actions always showing up, always helping and always loving with his whole heart. Whether in his woodshop, at church, or surrounded by his children and grandchildren, he lived a life of steady presence and unwavering devotion. He never missed a birthday, a special event, or a chance to be there for someone in need. He loved deeply, especially his beloved wife, whom he now rejoins after 16 years apart. There are no words that can truly capture the depth of his love or the strength of his character but to know him was to feel it. He was simply the best.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., Monday, July 7, 2025.
Final Rites will be conducted from the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m.
Bill Cutshaw will officiate, and interment will follow at the Shaw Cemetery at Denver, Preston County, West Virginia.
