Jewell ‘Brooks’ McCauley Jr.

On July 14, 1956, Jewell was married to Juanita Geneva Smith, who preceded him in death March 29, 2023.

He is survived by two sons, Michael McCauley of Belington and Mark McCauley and wife, Barbara, of Beverly; four daughters, Julie Gear of Elkins, Beverly George and husband, Rick, of Coalton, Loreta James and husband, Frank, of Tarboro, North Carolina, and Jo Ellen Markley and husband, Leonard, of Coalton; two brothers, Buford McCauley of South Carolina and Roger Lee McCauley and wife, Betty Lou, of North Carolina; one sister, Nina Lea Brady of North Carolina; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and one special pup, “Sassy,” who will now spend the remainder of her life with Jewell’s daughter, Julie.

Also preceding him in death were one brother, Calvan McCauley; and two sisters, Eugena McCauley Harris and Sandra Sue McCauley.

Mr. McCauley attended the schools of Barbour County. He worked for the West Virginia Department of Highways in Coalton for 30 years, retiring in 2001. He was a member of the Coalton Union Mission Church.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Monday, July 14, 2025, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 15, 2025, from the funeral home chapel, with Othie Kimble Jr. officiating.

Interment will follow in the Phillips Cemetery at Jimtown.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Coalton Union Mission Church, Randolph Ave., Coalton, WV 26257 or the Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center Activities Department, 2533 Beverly Pike, Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Jewell.
