SHELTON
Mrs. Laura Jo (Corley) Shelton, 61, a resident of Belington, departed this life Thursday afternoon, July 10, 2025, in the Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown. Death was unexpected.
She was born April 8, 1964, at Morgantown, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Harvey L. “Sam” Corley and the late Cheryl Ann Deaner.
On Oct. 31, 1992, she was united in marriage to Michael Eric Shelton, who survives at their home in Belington.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Ashleigh Watson and husband, Tom, of Belington; one son, Tyler Shelton, and companion, Samantha, of Belington; one granddaughter Olivia Watson; three step-grandchildren, Joshua, Brooklyn and Logan Watson; and a whole host of extended family.
Also surviving are many young adults who she had a large part in their lives while growing up.
In addition to her father and mother, she was preceded in death by her brother, Keith Michael Corley.
Laura attended the Schools of Randolph County and was a graduate of the Elkins High School with the class of 1982. Following high school, she graduated Davis & Elkins College and then West Virginia University, where she received her master’s degree plus 45 in education. She was employed with the Barbour County School System, teaching at the Junior Elementary School. After retirement, Laura was a long-term substitute throughout the schools in Barbour County, where she was dearly loved.
Laura attended the Weaver Church of the Nazarene, was an avid gardener, loved to read and was passionate about her daily walks to stay fit and healthy. She was an excellent cook and loved to spend time with her family, especially her granddaughter, Olivia, who affectionately referred to her as “Neena.” She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Friends called at the Talbott Funeral Home, 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington, on Sunday July 13, 2025, and again on Monday, July 14, 2025, from 8 a.m. – 11 a.m., the funeral hour, when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Pastor Johnny Paul Williams II officiating.
Interment will then follow in the Fraternal Cemetery near Belington.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Weaver Church of the Nazarene P.O. Box 122 Junior WV 26275.
