Carol Jane Thornhill and Charles Henry ‘Chuck’ Thornhill III

Carol Jane Thornhill and Charles Henry “Chuck” Thornhill III, residents of Montrose, West Virginia, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 12, 2025, in Elkins as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Carol was born June 14, 1958 in Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of the late Kermit Edward Thompson and the late Dora Marie Rowan Thompson.
Chuck was born Jan. 23, 1953, in Elkins, a son of the late Charles Henry Thornhill Jr and the late Willa Jean Moyer Thornhill.
Carol and Chuck were married on Dec. 17, 1977, at Montrose. Surviving are two children, Matthew Thornhill and wife, Emily, and children, Emma Grace and Matthew Tyrell “Ty” Thornhill Jr. of Montrose, and Amber N. Thornhill and husband, Brendan, Rinehimer of Linthicum Heights, Marlyabd. Also surviving Chuck are one brother, Daniel Wayne Thornhill, of Elkins; and two sisters, Susan Lynn Schleer of Oxford, New York, and Leesa Marie Harris of Montrose.
Carol attended the schools of Randolph County and was a graduate of Elkins High School and Davis & Elkins College. She was employed at Davis Memorial Hospital and later Davis Medical Center as the health information coordinator prior to her retirement. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting and making crafts and especially enjoyed working on the family farm and spending time with her grandchildren.
Chuck attended the schools of Randolph County and was a graduate of Elkins High School and received an Associate in Science Degree in Agriculture from Potomac State College. He was employed by the United States Department of Agriculture as a soil technician with the Natural Resources Conservation Service prior to his retirement. He was a lifelong farmer and helped many local farmers through his career at NRCS. He spent his retirement years farming with his son, grandchildren, and nephew and was always happy to help anyone in need.
Carol and Chuck attended services at the Orlena Global Methodist Church at Gilman, West Virginia.
Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Paul Thompson officiating.
A private interment will take place in the Thornhill Family Cemetery at Montrose.
The family request contributions be made to the Rosenbaum Family House, PO Box 8228, Morgantown, WV 26505 in memory of Carol and Chuck.
