Gregory Ray Vance, 67, a resident of Weston, West Virginia, passed away Sunday, Aug. 3, 2025 at Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston following a sudden illness.
He was born Sept. 28, 1957, at Harman, a son of the late Snowden and Virginia Elza Vance.
On Oct. 10, 1997, at Weston, he was married to Linda R. Bailey, who survives in Weston.
Also surviving are one stepson, Matthew Kemper of St. Albans, West Virginia; and one stepdaughter, Nancy Kemper of Weston, West Virginia.
Five grandchildren, Matthew F. Kemper, Mariah Daniels, Owen Kemper, Eva Kemper and Henry Kemper; and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Also preceding him in death in addition to his parents, were two brothers, Douglas Vance and Steven Vance; and one sister, Frances McLaughlin.
Greg attended the schools of Randolph County and was a 1975 graduate of Elkins High School and later obtained a master’s degree in business administration. He served in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Captain and later was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for many years prior to his retirement.
He was an active member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Weston.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m., Friday, Aug. 8, 2025, at the Whitmer Community Church.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, from the church, with Pastor Tim Conrad and Pastor Jeff Aiosa officiating.
Interment will follow in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded at the gravesite by members of the United States Air Force, H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Gregory Ray Vance.
