Marcella R. Moore

Marcella R. Moore, 100, a former resident of the Harding Community, passed away Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025, at Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center in Elkins. She was embraced by her daughter’s love.

She survived five battles with cancer, her strength, determination and love for God saw her through difficult times. Her life was devoted to her family. If she were the author of a book, the title would be “She Loved.”

Marcella was born on Feb. 10, 1925, in Mill Creek, West Virginia, to Ernest and Florida Tackett Shifflett. She had nine siblings, Percey, Nellie, Vennie, Myrtle, Virginia, Oran, Roy, Richard and Carroll, all deceased. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family and her husband’s family. She lived through the Great Depression and COVID.

She went from listening to various shows on the radio to watching them on smart TVs. She went from using the party line telephones to cell phones. She used an old wringer washer and now the automatic washer.

She was married to a military man, Albert G. Moore, on April 25, 1946, in Elkins, by Rev. Ware. Albert passed away on Feb. 16, 2009. They had celebrated 63 years of marriage. Albert was the son of Meady (Collins) and Grover Moore. He was the second child out of thirteen. His siblings included Lawrence, Edward, Perry, Francis, Russell, Charles, Roy, Densil, Ethel, Becky, Hazel and Angel, all deceased.

Surviving is one daughter, Patty Sue Teter (Jerry) of Harman, West Virghinia. Marcella had one granddaughter, Donielle Suzanne, and husband, Scott Shomo; and one great-granddaughter, Emilia Khaleesi Teter-Shomo. Khaleesi was the apple of Mamaw Moore’s eye.

Marcella also had three great-grandchildren, Brooke Waybright, Nicole and Christian Shomo; two great-great-grandchildren, Peyton and Walker; and one deceased great-great-grandchild, Waylon. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was a Methodist by faith and attended the Randolph County Schools. She was a stay-at-home mom and homemaker.

Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2025, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025, from the funeral home chapel. Rev. Randy Long will officiate. Interment will follow at Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman.
