Nancy Joan Vanscoy Lawrence

Mrs. Nancy Joan Vanscoy Lawrence, 79, a resident of Belington, departed this life early Monday morning, Aug. 4, 2025, in the Davis Medical Center at Elkins, West Virginia. Death was following a period of declining health.

She was born on Dec. 2, 1945, a daughter of the late Harlen and Ann Zelma Ware Vanscoy.

On Oct. 21, 1967, at Oakland, Maryland, she was united in marriage to Samuel David Lawrence, who preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 2024.

Left to cherish her memory are three sons, Harlen Neil Lawrence and wife, Debi, of Clarksville, Tennessee, Samuel Burton Lawrence of Belington and John Paul Lawrence and wife, Monica, of Elkins; two sisters, Gloria June Galloway and husband, Sidney, and Carolyn Mae Gettys.

Additional survivors include daughter-in-law, Misty Lawrence; eight grandchildren, Crystal Beam, Patrick Lawrence, Trey Lawrence, Elizabeth Lawrence, Whitney Jones, Brooklyn Haller, Taylor Lawrence and Tyler Lawrence; six great-great-grandchildren, Alicia Maria Morris, Alexander David, Declan David, Travis Haller, Isabella Haller and Hailey Haller.

Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, James David Lawrence; one daughter, LaDonna Marie Lawrence; a brother, Robert Neil Vanscoy; and an infant brother, Harlen Richard Vanscoy.

Nancy attended the schools of Randolph County and was a graduate from Coalton High School with the class of 1964. She attended the Gospel Light Tabernacle in Elkins. Nancy was a homemaker most of her life and she also worked in home health care giver for the elderly. She loved to cook and to crochet, and loved her family very much. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Friends will be received at the Gospel Light Tabernacle, 79 Tabernacle Lane in Elkins, on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, from 10 a.m. to noon, the funeral hour, when final rites will be conducted from the church with the Rev A.H. Belt officiating.

Interment will then follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Elkins.
